Tonight, in Charlotte, North Carolina THEE Boston Celtics have done the unthinkable. They have just accomplished a few things with their win tonight over the Charlotte Bobcats in the NBA:
1. Become the first team in NBA history to go from the worst record the previous season, to the best record in the next.
2. They have established the home court advantage throughout the entire NBA playoffs.
3. They have established the best record in the NBA and in the Eastern Conference.
4. Have won 61 games, 37 more than they did all of last year (there are still 6 games to play in this regular season). That +37 swing in games won, also marks the biggest positive record change from one year to the next in NBA history.
There are many MVPs on this team with the tremendous turnaround. Certainly the big 3 whom I call the GPA: Garnett, Pierce, and Ray Allen are all MVPs and All-Star's. (Incidentally, none of those 3 played tonight, so it was largely a bench victory.) Rajon Rondo, the sophomore point guard, who has become a force to be reckon with. But, while Doc Rivers is a good to average NBA coach, I'd argue the MVP of this team is the new defensive specialist the team brought in during the off-season: Tom Thibodeaux.
Thibodeaux brought his system to the Celtics, and with the influence of The Big Ticket's (Garnett) attitude and energy on this team as a whole, this team is the best defensive team in the NBA. If not, they are in the top 2-3 in the NBA. In the playoffs, the defense, largely a result of hussle, will be key to winning the Celtics first championship since 1986...
2002 - it was the Patriots turn to surprise this area with a title.
2004 - it was the Red Sox who banished a curse, came from down 3-0 to the MFY (mother fucking Yankee's) to win a championship.
2008 - is it the Celtics turn to stop their championship drought?
Congrats to the Celtics, and major kudos to General Manager Danny Ainge on a fantastic regular season.
Now, let's go win a damn championship!
A Good Feeling
