The Polygamist Sect

This is a tough call, and NOT a tough call. Clearly, this sect deserves/deserved to be broken up and disassembled. Having sex and getting pregnant 15 year old girls is against THE law, a law I think most would support. However, it's the forcible brainwashing that is the real terror of this story.

This should be a debate we have as a nation at some point. We won't because the nation has a Puritan overtone that may take a few more centuries to fully evaporate. Atheists/Freethinkers/Non-Believers, such as myself, have grown in number recently. But, we are far overwhelmed by the church-goers.

I support civil unions of all types. And I believe that could/should include relationships that are of the open variety, and polygamy where there are multiple partners. It's not my thing, but who is to say what is right for one person (marriage) is right for another.

If this sect had been a group of 20-year old polygamists who didn't insulate any children they had and didn't force them into the lifestyle, that'd be okay with me. But, the very nature of this sect is the damning part that we need to stop. A 50 year old man, having sex, and then getting the same 15 year old pregnant...that's a problem not just by the very letter of the Texas law...that's an issue concerning when one is able to truly make their own mind, truly have free will.

It's not only age, but it's opportunity. This poor girl had neither.
