Barack on the lower middle class

Barack Obama's own words:

"They cling to guns and religion..."

As an atheist, this is the same view I have, and Barack Obama said it out loud during a Presidential race. However, not only is this a view, this is a FACT. They cling to religion especially, and I'd also add to that, alcohol.

While this is an accurate view, again, it is NOT a winning argument. This makes him beatable. You can speak the truth to these people, but you have to be careful HOW you do it...that is partly why Bill was/is so beloved in the Democratic Party. People in the know, understood Bill was able to deliver the message to these people that got through to them, reminded them of their stiff upper lip and are going to need to sacrifice or two to benefits their children. The people bought it.

McCain can beat Obama if he keeps fucking up in this manner.

Finally, the argument that Obama came into the race being sold as this man who can unite the country was an accurate one. You can unite the country around the idea that these people are completely getting screwed by the rich (because they are).

The problem is simple: You cannot do it in these stark tones, when the very people who are getting screwed flat-out refuse to concede they are indeed getting screwed. And if they admit they are getting screwed, they often will blame the wrong person, the liberal who would support policies that help them, and vote for the folksy republican (see Dubya) who they mistakenly believe are intent on seriously helping them.

Finally, I love how the media snarks about politicians being elite when THEY themselves are often the real elite. And, they shamefully go to the White House Correspondents Dinner year after year to rub shoulders with those who have power...while, laughing at ridiculous video of a moron Resident thinking a joke about finding weapons of mass destruction is actually funny when it's tragic (and they proceed to laugh along in such a pathetic, sickening, manner.

Much like the word "liberal," "elitism" has become a naughty words. Both, wrongfully accused and convicted.
