After an UGLY performance in the first round of the NBA playoffs against the vaunted (*cough, cough*) ATL Hawks, the best team during the regular season, my Boston Celtics, begin their series tonight against "King" LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavs.
Watching these playoff games reminds me of why I quit watching the NBA:
1. Minimum basketball fundamentals are showcased throughout the league. Most of today's NBA players are horrible when it comes to the basic fundamentals of the game. For years my favorite player in the league has been one man: Tim Duncan. He is a big man who does all the footwork, isn't flashy, doesn't get all the endorsements because he's a quiet guy. Yet, he has led his team year after year into the playoffs, while winning 3 championships in the past 5 years.
2. Minimal passing/more of a one on one game. The game has become a game of give the ball to your "star," clear the middle of the court and have your best player take on the other teams best player to see who beats who. This has resulted in less team basketball.
3. The by-product of number 2 is that after said player "goes to the hole" (that's hoop for you neophytes) and draws any contact of a feather's force or more...they invariably act like they have been shot in the heart by an arrow from Robin Hood's bow. There is way too much acting in the NBA product, and I think they should start giving out Oscar's each year to the best actors every year.
Having said all that, I am rooting for my Celtics. To show what a baseball junkie I am, I will not stick with my C's....I will flip back and forth to the Boston Red Sox game currently playing.
A Good Feeling
