Possible options for Hill if/when she is finally eliminated from the race:
1. A long Senate career in the vein of Sen. Ted Kennedy.
2. Run again for President at some later date.
3. Run for Governor of New York (the replacement for Spitzer is already t-o-a-s-t).
4. Take a VP nomination nod this year, or perhaps after another failed Presidential run, at a later date.
5. Perhaps the most intriguing option I've heard was written by James Andrew Miller on the editorial page of yesterday's Washington Post (5/21/08); Make a deal with Obama to step aside in exchange not for the VP nod, but for a promise of the first Supreme Court nomination upon Justice Ginsberg's retirement. Ginsberg will retire shortly after the next President, she's been holding on for dear life since Dubya was selected in 2000.
I don't know if the writer of the editorial has any inside information; I'd be shocked if they did. This seems like a less likely option that Hill would accept, though it would fit her skillset. I think she wants to be more public, and the Court is too solitary an insular for her. Moreover, the "glass ceiling" has already been broken on the court by Ginsberg and O'Connor.
