Obama can beat McCain I believe. The stark contrast between old geezer, and young man full of energy and enthusiasm will be too much for McCain to bear. Moreover, the Repos don't like McCain and may stay home in good-sized numbers.
However, Obama cannot beat Romney, who while you may not like him, looks more and more Presidential. Romney has a massive campaign war chest, and the ability to self-fund his campaign. The only Dem who could match that money is Clinton, and the only one who could match the verbal logistics of Romney the candidate. Romney isn't quite this good, but he reminds of a very poor man's Clinton in his ability to dodge and explain away seemingly blatant contradictions. This will require an attack dog who will be able to match him in the debate arena, and I have yet to fully see enough from Obama to show he can do the job.
Obama strikes me as another John Kerry. A decent man who was not an exceptional debater; Out-foxed by the dumbledor Dubya. Romney could do the same thing to Obama. While neither are tested in the Presidential waters, I think Romney is the smoother, slicker, better debater who can score points more cleanly. And he could only be beat by Clinton who may not be very slick herself, but she's got skills, and moxey.
Finally, Romney won this latest Repo debate, in a slam-dunk.
