I used to be a pseudo-college football fan, like most blokes who attended a proper university are. However, I have found myself boycotting any watching of ANY college football games, even my own alma mater's games. This is not just because I am older, and am too busy, but it's because of the meaningless, nitwit of a system the football people have been using.
Every single bowl game, other than the national championship game, is a glorified exhibition game that means literally...nothing. You get paid whether you win or lose. Your team wins some notoriety just by being in the bowl, but that doesn't mean you will get blue chip recruits because of it. And I find the coverage on ESPN, which has gotten nauseatingly self-serving in the last 4-5 years, to be a colossal annoyance. So much so, I have temporarily stopped watching the ESPN flagship, the program that made it what it is, SportsCenter.
SportsCenter, in and of itself, has become so commercialized it's downright nauseating in it's own right...the "Budweiser Hot Seat??" how retarded???!!...but, to spend hour upon hours devoting time to meaningless football games, is annoying and pathetic.
Okay, so ESPN is about entertainment! I'll give it a free pass, but I still won't be a watching...
